How to Become an FBI Agent in New Hampshire

Basic Requirements:

  • Age: Applicants should be at least 23 and younger than 37 years of age. Age waivers are required for those who reach 37 years of age before they are hired.
  • Degree: Bachelor’s degrees are required of every applicant, and the degree must be from an accredited U.S. institution.
  • Experience: The FBI requires applicants to have three years or more of applicable working experience.
  • Citizenship: The FBI requires applicants to be citizens of the United States or a United States territory.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants are required to meet the FBI physical fitness requirements as well as the medical requirements.
  • Passing background checks and drug tests is required of all applicants.
  • Applicants are required to have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Applicants should be prepared to move and work in any place that is under FBI jurisdiction.

Application Process

The first step in the process to becoming a New Hampshire FBI agent is to complete the online application. If you make it through this initial step, you’ll proceed to a three-hour-long test to gauge your behavior, cognition and your logical reasoning abilities. If you pass, you’ll go to a meet and greet at the Boston field office. Next, you’ll complete a 90-minute-long written exam and a one-hour-long oral interview.

Those who make it to this point will be offered a Conditional Job Offer with the FBI. You’ll now participate in the background investigation and physical fitness test. You’ll also spend 21 weeks in Quantico, Virginia completing your basic field training. If you make it through this process, you’ll become a probationary FBI agent. From here, you’ll report to one of the field offices for an 18-month-long probationary period of hands-on field experience.

Degrees Related to FBI Agents

The FBI doesn’t require its agents to have specific degrees, but it can help you to get a degree that relates to what you want to do as an agent. If you’re considering computer forensics, majoring in computer science would be a great benefit to you. If you’re good at learning foreign languages, a foreign language degree may be a good idea since the FBI is always in need of agents who know more than one language. Other useful degrees for FBI agents include psychology, accounting, finance and criminology.
